The Canadian Grand Prix was first battled out on October 8, 1978. From then on, this legend on the racing calendar has gathered more and more adoring fans.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as it is now known, has thrilled grand prix fans who have come on to cheer their idols: Gilles Villeneuve (of course), Alan Jones, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher, Damien Hill, Fernado Alonso and Lewis Hamilton all conquered.
The Grand Prix du Canada is battled out each year on an island in the middle of the St Lawrence. When the Canadian Grand Prix comes to town, the party begins. With the combination of a great track, world-class restaurants, trendy hotels and a city that never sleeps, Montreal has become an annual favourite for many people from all over the world.
The circuit was built in 1967, 11 years before the first Formula 1 Grand Prix was held in Canada. The circuit is built on a man-made island in the middle of the St Lawrence River and was named in honour of Gilles Villeneuve.
The Canadian Grand Prix combines a mixture of slow and fast corners and demands a lot of the engines as well as the braking system. As for entertainment, Montreal literally turns itself over to the Canadian Grand Prix each year. The city gets consumed with special events and parties during race weekend.
